Born in England, Jeffrey Brodkin began his creative journey at a young age. At seven
he taught himself watercolor, oil and acrylic painting. While in high school he became
fascinated by classical manuscripts that led to his interest in calligraphy. Following
graduation from the University of Manchester, Jeffrey traveled extensively throughout
Europe and the Middle East and further evolved his artistic skills.
Attracted by its beauty and creative spirit, Jeffrey took up residence in San Francisco
in the early 1970s. He began taking art classes at the local DeYoung Museum and
studying with internationally renowned masters. Under the tutelage of master painter
Woo Ma, Jeffrey began showing his work in San Francisco where he has sold numerous
paintings.
Jeffrey’s paintings and photography reflect his love of nature - including scenery, wildlife,
and flora. In addition to freestanding calligraphic pieces, many of his watercolors and
photos are accompanied by calligraphy phrases that strengthen their meaning and
beauty.
Although best known for his event and corporate graphic design work through his
company, Jeffrey Brodkin: A Studio for Word and Image, Jeffrey’s plan is to spend an
increasing amount of time on art that focuses on nature. While his own artwork is
available for purchase, Jeffrey also works closely with clients on a commission basis.
Together, Jeffrey and a client will discuss a piece that the client has in mind, considering
color, style, size, and budget. Several preliminary options will then be presented to
assure client satisfaction with the product’s direction. An original by Jeffrey Brodkin
brings its owner delight and continuous visual pleasure.
